EMALS Motor Generator Passes Acceptance Testing
The U.S. Navy moved one step closer to replacing the steam catapult with an electrical one on Apr. 9.

The motor generator for the Electromagnetic Launch System (EMALS) successfully completed factory acceptance testing.

The 80,000 lb motor generator is capable of delivering 60 megajoules and 60 megawatts of electricity.

The first components of the EMALS equipment are scheduled to be delivered in 2011 for installation in the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), which is scheduled to be delivered to the US Navy in 2015.
