Military considers navy's weapons to protect troops
Canada is considering stripping its warships' Phalanx Close-In Weapons System and sent them to Afghanistan to shoot down incoming mortar shells and rockets.

But bringing them to a dusty environment requires constant maintenance and the navy is short-staffed on CIWS technicians.
