Fewer F-35s will be needed, a top defense official predicts
U.S. Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England said Wednesday that fewer F-35s are needed than previously projected.

He said that future advances in the warplane's capabilities and the planned expansion of the military's fleet of unmanned aircraft would result in less than 2,443 JSFs being bought.
