U.S. seeking long runway in Okinawa The U.S. government is asking the Japanese government for an alternative runway of more than 2,500 meters in Okinawa if U.S. Futenma Air Station in Ginowan, Okinawa Prefecture, is returned to Japan under a 1996 bilateral agreement.
