Gates delay F-35 program, cuts 122 aircraft U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates has decided to delay the F-35 program to allow testing to catch up.

He has directed the Pentagon to defer purchase of 10 aircraft in fiscal 2011 and a total of 122 through 2015.
