Britain and Canada to rent Russian helicopters
Canada will lease eight Mi-8 helicopters to ferry troops and supplies in Afghanistan while British commanders held a meeting yesterday to consider renting Russian helicopters as well.
Canadian Defense Minister Peter MacKay would not say if the helicopters will be supplied by a NATO country or a private company. A defense analyst says his choice of words seems to suggest that a private company will supply the aircraft.
Over at London, Defense Secretary Des Browne conveyed a meeting with senior British officers to consider the option of leasing helicopters.
