Gates Says New Arms Must Play Role Now
U.S. Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates said expensive weapons such as the F-22 must prove their value to current conflicts in order to be included in future Pentagon budgets.
"I have noticed too much of a tendency towards what might be called next-war-itis — the propensity of much of the defense establishment to be in favor of what might be needed in a future conflict," Gates said.
